botox

Many are turning to Botox® to reduce moderate to severe frown lines between their brows, forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. This safe and effective medication is placed into your wrinkles using a tiny needle. It is used to eliminate facial wrinkles and frown lines by decreasing the movement of the muscles in these trouble areas. Botox can brighten up your attitude and outlook, remove the wrinkles of time or make small improvements in an otherwise perfect face.  Botox has also been used successfully for patients with hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating in the armpits, hands or feet.

Botox, also known as botulinum toxin therapy, is specially formulated with a purified protein that relaxes the muscles when injected in the targeted area, ultimately reducing the appearance of frown lines and facial wrinkles. It is a minimally invasive procedure, allowing patients to return to normal daily activities immediately following the procedure. Patients usually see results within 3 to 7 days following the procedure.

FDA approved, Botox is a safe and effective procedure that provides patients with results that can last anywhere from 3-5 months on average.

chemical peels

There are various types of chemical peels that can aid in skin rejuvenation. We offer a variety of chemical peels of different strengths to help reduce the signs of aging, scars and blemishes and restore the natural beauty of your skin! Chemical peels remove a layer of skin with a chemical preparation, allowing the skin to grow back smoother than before and with reduced imperfections, leaving you with a younger, fresher appearance. Our dermatologist can determine which chemical facial peel may be right for you.

There are several types of chemical peels available, including:

  • Light chemical peel (glycolic or salicylic acid): These chemical peels are used to improve dry skin and uneven pigmentation. They can also be used to help improve the effects of sun-damage and help to control acne. Multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired results.

  • Medium chemical peel (TCA): This type of chemical peel is most often used for those who want to improve the appearance of fine wrinkles, mild blemishes and uneven pigmentation. This type of peel can be used anywhere on the body.

  • Acne chemical peels: Mild, medium or deep chemical peels can be used to help control acne and smooth the appearance of acne scars. The strength of the peel will depend on the patient’s skin condition.

Chemical peels are designed to help to reduce wrinkles, sun-damage, blotchy skin and uneven pigmentation, ultimately restoring your skin’s youthful appearance. The type of chemical peel being received will determine the specific aspects of the procedure. Below is a general protocol of a chemical peel procedure.

  • Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and if necessary, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the targeted area.

  • The chemical peel solution will then be applied. Patients can expect to feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation as the peel is being applied.

  • Once the peel solution has set on the skin for the prescribed amount of time, it is then neutralized.

  • A soothing ointment will then be applied.

  • Your dermatologist will provide you with aftercare instructions and prescribe a mild pain reliever for any discomfort following the procedure.

  • Multiple chemical peels may be necessary depending on the strength of the peel received and the patient’s skin condition.

The type of peel you receive will determine the length of recovery time. Some patients can resume normal daily activities immediately following treatment, while other, more intense treatments may require patients to take a week off from work for optimal recovery.

While there are rarely any complications associated with chemical peels, certain risks do exist, including scarring, swelling, infection, cold sore outbreaks and possible changes in skin tone. To help reduce side effects associated with chemical peels, it is important to provide your dermatologist with a complete medical history and follow the instructions provided carefully.

The CoolSculpting fat-freezing procedure is the only FDA-cleared,* non-surgical fat-reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat that resists all efforts through diet and exercise. The results are proven, noticeable, and lasting—so you'll look great from every angle.

Your CoolSculpting clinician will work with you on the best treatment plan tailored to your needs. It may take as little as one office visit to achieve your goals. With different applicators to choose from, your clinician can design a treatment plan that can give you your desired results.

For some people, a customized treatment plan may include more than one CoolSculpting treatment. For example, you may want freeze away fat from your inner and/or outer thighs—and also get rid of that muffin top. Some practices have multiple CoolSculpting systems and can treat different body areas at the same time.

Years ago, scientists at Harvard University observed that some children who ate popsicles got dimples in their cheeks. The scientists—Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD—realized that the popsicles were freezing and eliminating small pockets of fat cells.

The idea that cold can target fat cells—without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue—was the insight behind cryolipolysis, the proven science on which the CoolSculpting procedure is based.

he CoolSculpting procedure safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystalized (frozen), then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.

fillers

Smoothing out folds and wrinkles can make an enormous difference in a person’s appearance, and sometimes it even make them look several years younger! Dermal fillers are used to help reverse the signs of aging and provide patients with a more natural, youthful appearance compared to surgical face lifts. Dermal fillers are used to:

  • Reduce or eliminate wrinkles

  • Reduce the appearance of scars

  • Enhance lips

  • Enhance the contours of the face

  • Replenish fullness to the cheeks

  • Lift the eyebrow area

  • Rejuvenate the hands

Your dermatologist will work with you individually to determine the best filler for your individual circumstances. Usually, a topical ointment will be used to numb the targeted area. Then, using a small needle, the dermal filler will carefully be injected into each wrinkle or scar being treated. You can expect some temporary, mild burning or stinging as the filler is being injected. Once the procedure is complete, you may resume everyday activities while benefitting from immediate results.

What types of fillers do you offer?

There are a number of dermal fillers available today, and we offer Juvéderm®, Juvéderm Voluma® XC, Belotero Balance® and Radiesse®.

Juvéderm® is a smooth gel that is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in your body. By carefully injecting Juvéderm underneath the skin, your skin can be completely rejuvenated, ultimately adding volume and reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds. It offers patients a safe and effective treatment with little to no down-time. Juvéderm is less invasive than other fillers and provides patients with dramatic improvement almost immediately following treatment. Results can last up to six months.

Juvéderm Voluma® XC is the first and only FDA-approved injectable filler that’s made to eliminate age-related wrinkles in the midface. Our skin contains a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid that keeps skin looking smooth. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin reduces, causing wrinkles and frown lines. Juvederm Voluma XC is a dermal filler that is designed to replace the hyaluronic acid lost and smooth away wrinkles in just one office visit.

Belotero Balance® is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is specifically designed to integrate into your skin and mold itself to your unique facial contours. This makes it an ideal choice for both tough areas like nasolabial folds (smile lines) as well as delicate areas like vertical lip lines. For a youthfulness that is uniquely yours, choose Belotero Balance.

Radiesse® is an injectable filler used to reduce the appearance of facial folds and wrinkles, as well as used for lip augmentation. Radiesse is different from other fillers because it is made from calcium-based microspheres that help reconstruct the base of the skin by stimulating collagen production, ultimately providing the longest-lasting results. Radiesse is a safe and effective procedure providing patients with results that can typically last from six months to one year.

Do you have less than perfect skin? People with skin that has been damaged by the sun, age spots, acne or skin that has a rough texture may benefit from microdermabrasion. This treatment removes the uppermost layer of skin and dead skin cells to reveal a healthier appearance. The exfoliation helps to revitalize the skin and encourage blood flow. We will consult with you on the treatment plan we feel will achieve your desired results.

Microdermabrasion gently exfoliates dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Patients may experience a slight warming sensation as the microdermabrasion crystals exfoliate the skin. The length and number of treatments solely depends on each individual’s condition.

This non-invasive procedure offers no downtime following treatment. As the new layer of skin appears, it will be more sensitive and require more protection from the sun. Use moisturizing creams to keep your skin hydrated and to help prevent any possible irritation.

Side effects are very rare and will not occur if properly performed by a qualified dermatologist. Temporary side effects may include, mild redness, swelling, minor discomfort and bruising. More serious side effects can include, scarring, changes in pigmentation and persistent redness.

Microdermabration

Also referred to as collagen induction therapy (CTI), micro-needling is a revolutionary treatment in cosmetic dermatology to remedy the appearance of lines, wrinkles and scars.

Micro-needling uses tiny needles to precisely poke small holes into the surface of the skin. These tiny “injuries” are made to stimulate collagen and elastin growth. Once the skin heals and repairs itself, wrinkles and fine lines will look softer and less noticeable. Likewise, topical medications will be able to penetrate further into the epidermal layer of skin and have a stronger effect.

We are proud to use the Eclipse MicroPen™ in our office! We will fasten a sterile, 12-micro-needle tip onto the MicroPen and cover your skin with a thin layer of topical gel. The MicroPen will be adjusted to whichever setting is appropriate for your particular case. The MicroPen will then be pressed onto your skin, gliding across in one single motion, while creating the tiny holes.

After the procedure, the skin will usually have a bright redness to it. Each patient’s healing time will depend on the MicroPen’s setting and how many times the area was passed over. Typically, the skin is red for 2 to 4 days, but patients can heal as quickly as 24 hours.

Micro-needling with the Eclipse MicroPen can benefit many types of skin that are afflicted with a variety of problems. Fine lines and wrinkles will appear less noticeable, and skin will look younger and refreshed. Skin that has acne scars, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and stretch marks can also benefit from micro-needling.

An alternative to chemical peels, dermaplaning is becoming a popular choice for deep exfoliation. Using a sterile scalpel and gentle touch, we lightly shave the surface of your face. Dermaplaning removes the superficial layers of skin and the fine hairs on your face, which often trap dirt and oils in the follicles. By removing the hair, you will prohibit future breakouts and have healthier-looking skin. Likewise, any topical products applied to your face will penetrate to a deeper level.

Dermaplaning is a great exfoliation treatment for women who are pregnant and cannot receive any chemical peels or treatments; patients who have excess hair on the face; patients with mild acne scars; and those with dry skin or hyperpigmentation.

There is no downtime associated with dermaplaning, so patients can resume their normal activities. We do require patients to wear a medical-grade sunscreen to protect the skin. We recommend scheduling another dermaplaning procedure whenever the facial hair starts to grow back, which is usually between 4 and 6 weeks.

If you are interested in dermaplaning, please schedule a consultation appointment!
